I've covered a good chunk of Europe by now. Western cities, Mediterranean coast, Scandinavia, all checked off. But somehow never made it east yet. Been wanting to visit Dracula country for years, finally planning a trip to Romania to see Transylvania with all those castles and mountain roads. What's the deal with car rentals there? Easy enough to find something reliable for driving around on your own?

Romania is pretty easy to navigate by car once you're outside the big cities. Roads in Transylvania are scenic but can be narrow and winding through the mountains, so take your time. Rental companies operate in Bucharest and other major cities, international chains are there but local options exist too. Make sure your rental includes proper insurance because road conditions vary, some rural areas have rougher pavement. GPS is helpful since signage isn't always clear in smaller villages.

Man, you're gonna love Transylvania. Bran Castle is the obvious tourist magnet but honestly the smaller fortresses tucked away in the mountains are way more atmospheric. The drives between villages are incredible, forests and valleys that feel like you've gone back a few centuries. You definitely want your own wheels for this, buses won't get you to half the cool spots. You could look at where to rent a car in Romania here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/romania . See what people are offering, check reviews, grab something that won't struggle on mountain roads and work out pickup with the owner.
